Rudd attempts to soothe India ties

The Age.com reports Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd pitches deeper political ties and partnerships with India in this very unstable time period.

Mr Rudd said Australia wanted shortly to launch negotiations on a new bilateral free trade agreement, and Canberra would also support India’s desire to become a member of the APEC regional grouping.

On the vexed issue of uranium sales to the sub-continent, he reiterated his Government’s policy that Australia would not sell yellowcake while India remained outside the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
